Where to Retire Cheap in the US
Here are the newest results for the best places to retire for people who make under $40,000/year. This study was based on the lowest housing costs for people 60 and older. Criteria for the results includes mortgage payments, additional housing costs, typical rent and the proportion of income retirees will spend on housing costs. After those criteria were met, cities were also rated on which ones had the best nearby amenities such as shopping, cultural events, medical facilities, colleges and outdoor activities. The results are from an online report I read on MSN.Several of these cities are also on the worst places to retire in an article I read just the other day and very different from other studies showing the best places to retire. Hmmm…Albuquerque, N.M.Augusta, Ga.Columbia, S.C.Jackson, Miss.Knoxville, Tenn.Little Rock, ArkLouisville, KYPittsburgh, PASt. Louis, MOSan Antonio, TX

Life over 50
Time has a way of catching you unaware of the passing years.  It seems like it was just yesterday that I was young and full of dreams. Christmas always seemed an eternity away back when I was a child. Now it comes around too fast. I close my eyes and see myself as a young adult building a business and raising my children.  I open my eyes and people are asking me if I want the senior discount.
.
My youth seems so far away I can hardly imagine where the time went.
Back then I would see an older person and couldn’t connect the dots. That gray-haired person driving in a car with their head barely above the steering wheel may have tugged at my heart strings but in my heart of hearts, I knew it would never be me. I would always be young.
.
And yet here I am, fast approaching my mid-sixties and just a decade away from being that little gray-haired gnome.
How did I get here so fast? Where did all those years and my youth go?
.
It’s called life, and as I look back I can see how short it really is. People say that, but they don't know what they're talking about until they're over 50. Then it hits them like a train.
.
Like anyone, I have some regrets about the life I’ve lead. There are things I wish I hadn't done, and bad decisions that took me down roads I wish I didn’t have to travel. There are also things I should have done in my lifetime and didn’t, which are equally regrettable. But there are many things I’m glad I did.
.
When you tally up those experiences, try to make sure there are more things you are glad you did than things you regret having done, or things you should have done.
.
Many old friends are retiring now, or in a couple of years. Our hair is thinning or turning gray, our bodies are starting to sag and the maps of our lives are telling our stories to everyone that sees us through the lines on our faces (unless they have had plastic surgery). We are starting to move slower, and can’t do physical labor like when we were young and so full of energy.
.
We’re all moving towards and ultimately through old age at our own pace but we are all affected in one form or another. Some may seem to sail through it on the surface. They are still taking long walks into their eighties. Their minds are sharp as a tack. But the majority of us sooner or later will find ourselves suffering debilitating arthritis, or battling cancer or heart disease.
.
The one thing we have in common, the thing that creates a bond between every one of us, is that there are always challenges we will have to face as we enter this new season.
.
My advice is the same to veterans of old age as well as newbies.
Whatever you would like to experience or accomplish in your life do it now! Don't put things off! Life goes by too quickly. Tell your family and friends how much you love them and everything you want them to remember that is important to you.
.
Life is a beautiful gift to each and every one of us. The way you live it is your gift to your friends and those who come after you. Make it a fantastic one. LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TODAY!
