You don't have to go to the other side of the world to experience "Romance,
romance, romance, romance," as the old song promised. It awaits your arrival after a short ride across the Southern
waters off California in the small town of Avalon on Catalina Island.

After living in Southern California for most of my life my husband
and I finally took the plunge, so to speak and visited what many tout as the most romantic little town this side of paradise. There
are two ways to travel to the island (assuming you don't own your own private yacht). The first is a 15 minute
ride by helicopter, and the second is an hour and a half ride by boat. We took the boat. Our trip across
was a bit choppy but on arrival we found a charming seaside port with a laid-back attitude and friendly people who call this
island home.

If you plan to make the trip during the high season you are wise to make reservations well in advance, especially
