life after retirementIt’s time to starting thinking about your new "life after retirement."  What will you do with all that free time? Where will you live? Will you have to keep working? Will you get more involved with your community? Will you seek to have a closer relationship with friends and family?

 A FEW TIPS:
.
Exercise Your Mind:  Every day, take a half hour or so for some games that will exercise your mind. Number games seem to really do the trick, like Sudoku. Word games are also helpful and fun. Write poetry. Click and play games here FREE
.
Engage in a project that is fulfilling: There are two options. Continue work for pay or volunteer. Get involved in politics or philanthropic ventures. It gives retirees a reason to get up in the morning, a purpose so to speak and will help you maximize retirement life.
 .
Practice financial maturity : Control and manage your spending even after retirement. Make a budget and live within it. This will reduce anxiety. If you don’t have enough retirement money for those little extras, get a part time job. more

Build on your relationship: Now is the time to rekindle your relationship with your partner. Healthy relationships and senior sex are still an important ingredient in a fulfilling retirement life. Find activities, new friends, and hobbies you can enjoy together. Read a book together, take a class together, join a club together…and do a few things on your own too. That way you’ll have plenty to talk about when you come together in the evening.

.
Find and Build new relationships-: Create new friends and stay connected with old friends via email and the phone if they are too far away to visit. It is the best way to fight loneliness and depression. Look for people that have some of the same interests you have by joining clubs. This is especially easy if you live in a retirement community with amenities like golf, swimming pools, tennis, pickle ball, recreation centers, clubs etc. If you don’t live in one of those communities, find a senior center in your area with plenty of things for you to become involved in after retirement.

Maintain family relationships: We live in different times now and many of us do not live near family either because we had to move to a more affordable state, or because our family moved for career and job relocations. Whatever the reason we have some ideas to keep you connected with grandkids and other family members. .

Maintain an active lifestyle: In order to get the most out of your retirement lifestyle you have to stay physically active through age appropriate and health appropriate sports. Walk, ride a bike, play golf or any other sports you played or always wanted to learn. Many retirees are limited in what they can do but don't let it be an excuse not to participate in life. There are exercises you can do even if you can't walk, or walk well. I know it sounds hard, but there are ways to enjoy life if you are handicapped. Even going outside for fresh air is helpful. Look around and watch a bird hunt for food. Talk to neighbors who pass by. Plant tomatoes in a planter. Watch them grow and enjoy the fruits of your labor!

.
Continue personal and spiritual development: Take a class in something you’ve always wanted to learn. Search where to volunteer on the internet. Get involved with your community or church. Look into something 'new age' if you don't like formal religions. Spirituality has been shown to enhance life.

DISCOVER THE REAL YOU with a fun game below.

A FUN GAME ABOUT DISCOVERING WHO YOU ARE TODAY....

Discover What You REALLY Want To Do With Your Life After Retirement!

This is a very simple, but effective game you can play in your head at any time. It’s a great way to discover what is really important to your personal quest in what to do in retirement.

Although the answers you give will be revealing, it won’t work unless you are honest with yourself. Whether you act on your answers is up to you. The exercise doesn't have to be finished in one attempt but make sure you write down your answers so you will know where you left off. It is called the 'Then what?' game.

OK, here is the premise…You've just  won $25,000,000 in the lottery. Now, what would you do?

Once you have your answer, ask yourself “Then what would I do?”

You get the idea. After the first answer, your “then what” answers will take more time.

This exercise begins easy, but it gets harder as you delve deeper into the exercise. You will have to ask yourself “then what” many times, honing the result before you discover who you are and what you really want after retirement.

This will offer you a chance to do a lot of soul searching and it will ultimately open doors that will reveal  a lot about yourself…but only if you are honest. It also brings to the surface any hidden passions and desires that you have denied yourself.

If you aren’t getting the results you expected, ask yourself this question. Am I hiding from who I am by not asking, and answering honestly?

Don’t allow the exercise to discourage you. Make it fun, and you will get some real insight into what makes you tic.

Life After RetirementKICK YOUR STRESS-

A little stress doesn't hurt. In fact, it can propel you into taking on that task you've been putting off. But like everything in life, too much can be damaging. There are a few things that can help.

Don't watch things that trigger stress on television before going to bed.

Don't compare your life to the lives of others. Everyone has challenges, and joys. Find yours.

Don't overbook yourself. After retirement take time to enjoy what you want to do. Don't be that "go to" guy or gal that everyone comes to when they want something done. Don't say yes to everything. If you don't want to do something or volunteer for something just say no. They'll find someone else...

Put your credit card in the freezer. Spending more than your budget allows causes stress when you don't have the money to pay for what you buy.
