Men Who Chase Younger Women

 Older men started to fantasize about having sex with younger women just a few short generations ago. Was it biology, evolution or culture?

Older men’s sexual attraction to younger women today is an anomaly if you consider the big picture.

 In the fifties, not only was it taboo to consider having sex with much younger women, men didn’t consider them to be sexy. They wanted women closer to their own age. But things began to change in the sixties with the advent of certain erotic magazines.

This new proclivity isn’t so much connected to evolution and biology as it is to something else according to experts, although the older men who want to chase much younger women try hard to convince us, and themselves otherwise.

And who has been changing the culture and advocating that lusting after younger women is related to evolution?  It started with adult magazines and porn three generations ago, and moved into more acceptable mediums where the writers, producers, magazine editors etc. could reach an even wider market via movies and television.

In a nutshell, we have been raising males to believe that women’s desirability peaks between the age of 18-24 and if she is older she is not as desirable.  Culture is trying to trump man’s evolutionary nature.

But when normal younger women encounter a much older man (9 years or more if the woman is 20-30) lusting after them with their eyes, or talking to them in a flirtatious way, they find it disturbing to say the least.  “It’s just gross,” a group of young women told me.

Luckily the media machines have not prevailed in their mega- efforts to convince the world that older men want younger women because of biology and evolution. Even today, huge age gaps in age for married couples are far from the norm.

Hugo Schwyzer , a teacher gender studies at Pasadena City College, doesn't mince words. He profoundly disagrees with the notion that it’s okay for predatory older men to lust after much young women because of a ‘biological or evolutionary programming’  factor. “This is about the cultural cachet of dating a much younger woman—and about the difficult-to-deny reality that younger women lack the experience and wisdom to call their older lovers on their bullshit,” he says.

USING AGE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE IN THE BEDROOM
 
While older men can't compete with younger men in the bedroom in many ways, there are a few things we have in our arsenal that we have acquired over the years.
 
First, we take life as it comes. We aren't as anxious about sex. If things don't work out as we wanted we don't fall apart. And we do have a back-up plan. The little blue pill.
 
We know our way around the bedroom and have years of experience learning about how to please a woman.
 
We aren't in a hurry and are more concerned that our partner is also enjoying sex.

 “Ask any porn site operator: the “barely legal” or “teens” sections are among the most popular niches. That doesn’t sound so troubling when you imagine an army of teen boys masturbating to images and videos of their female peers. It’s considerably different to imagine men jerking off to pictures of girls young enough to be their daughters—or granddaughters,” Schwyzer says.

I used to be in sales. One day a much older man was trying to make the case for older men, younger women and sexual promiscuity. He stated that “men had a biological need to spread their seed” to young women who could bear children. I was in my twenties and could hardly keep from laughing at his “logic”. Given the fact that condoms and the pill are so widely used to prevent pregnancy it was a very poor argument for his case. 

Schwyzer also profoundly disagrees with the notion that it’s okay for predatory older men to lust after young women barely out of their teens because of a biological or evolutionary programming factor.

Which Younger Women Are Interested in Older Men

Lynn Phillips, a psychology professor interviewed a good number of women over 30 who had been in a relationship with a much older man when they were young.  While they were in these relationships as very young women, they said it made them feel more mature and that they had not been exploited. However, once women had the benefit of hindsight women admitted that they had in fact been exploited and that their previous claims of maturity, sexual adventurousness, and that the relationship was mutually beneficial were all a fabrication.

Study after study reveal that younger women who pair with much older men do so because they have low self-esteem according to psychologists, are often depressed and don’t fit the worn-out story line that they embrace the idea of having sexual initiation by older men.

20-something women aren’t nearly as interested in much older men as you want to think. While some younger women flirt with older men they work with etc.  most do it because they have an agenda,  underlying insecurities, want financial security, need a father-figure or have low self-esteem.

Christie Hartmen, PhD, believes young women are seeking older men for confidence, wisdom and maturity by osmosis, and the biggest reason younger women may date older men is because younger men can provide the financial freedom they are not willing to work for in a more age-appropriate relationship and that's why these younger women want older men.
