Long-awaited rules aimed at improving the safety of foods imported to the United States were proposed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday...

Under the rules proposed Friday, importers would be accountable for verifying with their foreign suppliers that certain food safety standards are being met. Importers would be required to maintain records verifying that their foreign suppliers have met standards for the production of the food coming into the country….

July, 2013 TALLER WOMEN MORE SUSEPTIBLE TO CANCER

The taller a postmenopausal woman has the greater risk for developing cancer, according to a new, large study of American women. Similar results have been found in other Western populations, including in the United Kingdom and Canada, and in Asia.

Those specific cancer sites are colorectal, colon, rectum, breast, endometrium, ovary, kidney, thyroid, melanoma and multiple myeloma.

Each 10 centimeter - about 4 inches - increase in height is associated with a 13 percent increase in overall cancer risk, according to his group’s analysis of 144,701 women aged 50 to 79. (they did not give a height to measure against however the average height for a woman is 5'5")

“This study is in women, our study was in women, but when we looked at studies of men as well, it is very similar,” says Dr. Jane Green, a clinical epidemiologist at the University of Oxford, England.

Food and Drug Administration officials are cracking down on companies that sell illegal and fraudulent products that claim to treat, ease or even cure diabetes, which affects 1 in 9 Americans older than 20….

Targeted products include Zostrix Diabetic Foot Pain Relief Cream, DiabeRex, marketed as “the New Diabetes Miracle,” and Glytain, billed as “the all-natural way to support normal blood sugar levels".

July, 2013 – Experts revealed some surprising things that reduce the risk of
Alzheimer’s disease.

First, people who are in a higher income bracket may be less likely to get the disease (but not always true as we have seen).

Most cancers, for example, are associated with a significantly lowered risk of Alzheimer’s and the risk drops even more if the cancer is treated with chemotherapy.

If you have type 2 diabetes it is recommended that you take the medication Metformin. And choosing to retire later in life is shown to decrease the risk of the disease.
